// Platform Tiers

PermitSync scales from small contractor safety records to full project permit control.

Not every contractor needs a full permit-to-work system. The platform is split into three tiers so smaller teams can manage JHA, SWMS, isolations, and boundaries without paying for a major-project setup.

// Use the right level

Three tiers, one safety control path.

Small contractors and service teams

Safety & Isolation Control

Small to mid-size contractors with JHA, SWMS, plant, panels, lockouts, or boundary control

The contractor-level control package for crews that need clean safety records and isolation discipline without running a full permit office.

What it unlocks

Gives supervisors one place to prepare JHA/SWMS records, confirm worker acknowledgements, track lockouts, and keep boundary points visible.

Best for

  • Trade contractors working around live services, plant, panels, pumps, valves, or mechanical systems
  • Maintenance and service teams that need proof of isolation and worker sign-on
  • Small packages where the work is controlled, but formal permit issue is not required

Includes

  • JHA, SWMS, and task documentation register
  • Worker review, acknowledgement, and sign-on records
  • Isolation points, LOTO locks, tags, and equipment register
  • Boundary register for construction/commissioning separation points
  • Supervisor review, PDF packs, and audit history
  • Contractor dashboard for open actions and incomplete records

Construction projects

Project PTW

Medium projects, multi-trade sites, commissioning works

The full permit-to-work workflow for sites where work needs to be requested, reviewed, authorised, issued, monitored, and closed out.

What it unlocks

Adds the permit office layer: PCO review, SIMOPS checks, zone-based permit selection, isolation verification, status tracking, and controlled close-out.

Best for

  • Construction projects with multiple contractors, supervisors, and work fronts
  • Commissioning areas where permits, isolations, and work status must line up
  • Sites with PCO, permit holder, isolation authority, and work crew roles

Includes

  • Everything in Safety & Isolation Control
  • Permit request, review, approval, issue, suspension, return, and close-out
  • Zone-based permit selection for construction, commissioning, and energised areas
  • SIMOPS visibility across active permits and overlapping work fronts
  • Isolation verification gates before issue and before return to service
  • Permit dashboards, print packs, status history, and audit trail

Complex sites and programs

Major Project

Large construction, rail, mining, utilities, shutdowns, commissioning programs

The project-control tier for high-risk environments where PermitSync needs to support governance, approvals, switching, handover, and multiple stakeholder groups.

What it unlocks

Adds project administration, custom role gates, HV switching workflows, contractor registers, reporting, implementation support, and hardware/site rollout options.

Best for

  • Major infrastructure, rail, mining, utilities, processing plants, and shutdown programs
  • High-risk commissioning, energisation, handover, and operations interface environments
  • Large teams with multiple contractors, PCOs, authorities, operators, and client stakeholders

Includes

  • Everything in Project PTW
  • Multi-site, multi-contractor, and package-based administration
  • Custom approval workflows, role permissions, and escalation paths
  • HV switching programs, isolation authority workflow, and sign-off records
  • Commissioning boundary registers, contractor imports, and handover support
  • Implementation planning, training, reporting, and LOTO hardware options
// When to step up

The tier changes when the risk and coordination load changes.

A two-person trade crew should not be forced into a major-project PTW package. But once the job has isolations, boundaries, multiple crews, live services, commissioning, or formal approvals, the system needs more control.

Safety and isolation control

Start with JHA, SWMS, worker acknowledgements, LOTO, isolation points, lock tracking, and boundary registers.

Permit control

Add formal review, issue, active work, close-out, and audit trail.

Project control

Add custom workflows, HV switching, implementation, training, and hardware support.

Quick rule of thumb

If the job needs paperwork, lockouts, or boundaries without a full permit office, start with Safety & Isolation Control. If work needs formal approval and issue, use Project PTW. If the project needs implementation, training, HV, or custom workflows, use Major Project.

Safety & Isolation Control
Move up when work needs formal permit approval, PCO review, SIMOPS control, or close-out workflow.
Project PTW
Move up when there are multiple sites, custom workflows, HV switching programs, or formal implementation/training needs.
Major Project
This is the top tier. It is scoped around the project and the controls needed.

Not sure where a contractor fits?

Start with the work type, isolation risk, number of crews, and whether formal permit approval is required. The right tier should be obvious after that.
